Term for high-performance buildings that are grid-integrated and capable of generating as much energy as they consume, using cutting-edge technologies and on-site generation systems such as solar power and geothermal energy. From a design standpoint, the ultimate objective is the development of net-zero energy buildings. Also known as zero net energy buildings (ZNB).
