Regenerative Facility Management: From Maintaining Facilities to Strengthening the Systems That Sustain Organizational Performance

The future contribution of FM should not be defined only by how efficiently it maintains facilities, but also by whether the systems upon which organizational performance depends become stronger through the way those facilities are managed.

This is the starting point for Regenerative Facility Management (FM).

The concept developed from practitioner work examining the relationship between workplace performance, workforce capability, community development, environmental stewardship, resilience and anticipatory risk management. The existing Regenerative FM framework defines four interconnected systems — people, workplace, community and environment — and argues that long-term performance cannot be achieved reliably by optimizing them independently.
